The Old Markets is a Greek National Monument and has nestled at the heart of Symi’s elegant harbour since the Island’s halcyon days as an affluent sponge trading centre.
Situated in Symi’s idyllic harbour town, a conservation area, where every building in the port is protected, it a living amphitheatre framed by the endless blue of the Aegean sky and sea.
In its heyday, The Old Markets or Agora (meeting place) was the heart of the town, with many trades taking place within its galleria of shops.
The structure of the Agora building has been carefully respected, restored and repaired, while the shop units have been converted to provide large, comfortable rooms preserving the original features. The adjoining Captain's Mansion, a traditional Symi mansion house, was fully renovated in 2016, and offers elegant rooms, some with painted ceilings and balconies to enjoy views of the charming harbour.
