History

The Old Markets  is a Greek National Monument which has nestled at the heart of Symi’s elegant harbour town since its affluent sponge trading days.

The Old Markets or Agora was a meeting place, with many trades taking place within its galleria of shops.Set in a conservation area, where every building is protected, the backdrop is a living amphitheatre framed by the endless blue of the Aegean sky and sea. 

The structure of the Agora building has been carefully respected, restored and repaired, while the shop units have been converted to provide large, comfortable rooms preserving the original features. The adjoining Captain's Mansion, a traditional Symi mansion house, was fully renovated in 2016, and offers elegant rooms, some with painted ceilings and balconies to enjoy views of the charming harbour.
