  • Toilet Use

    • Please do not flush toilet paper or any paper products.
Kindly place all paper items in the bin provided—this will be emptied daily by housekeeping.

    • The local sewage system in Greece is unable to handle flushed paper. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping us prevent plumbing issues.

    Strong Winds

    • To prevent damage or injury, please ensure that all shutters, windows, and doors are securely closed, as strong winds can arise suddenly and without warning.

    Floors & Uneven Surfaces

    • While the original flagstone floors add to the charm and character of the property, please take care when walking on uneven surfaces and stairs.

    • Around the island, you'll also find many marble steps—these can become extremely slippery when wet, so we recommend using caution and wearing suitable footwear, especially after rain or near the waterfront.

    Island Cats

    • Symi’s cats are well-fed and generally quite friendly. We encourage you to enjoy their company from a respectful distance, as they are free-roaming and independent.

    • If you’d like to support their care, donations can be made at the local pet store, which helps provide food and medical care for our feline friends.

    Environmental Awareness

Symi has very few natural resources, including fresh water, which is extremely limited and shipped to the island during the summer months.

In light of this, we are committed to protecting and preserving the local environment, and we truly appreciate your support. Here are a few simple ways you can help during your stay:

    • Use water mindfully – turn off taps when not in use and take shorter showers.

    • Reuse towels and linens where possible—just let us know if fresh ones are needed.

    • Avoid single-use plastics – reusable water bottles are provided in your room.

    • Recycle where facilities are available, and dispose of waste responsibly.

    • Turn off lights, fans, and air conditioning when leaving your room.

Together, these small actions make a big difference. Thank you for helping us care for Symi’s natural beauty.

Please also note: In Greece, a Climate Crisis Resilience Fee, also known as an Environmental Tax, is collected from tourists to fund climate change adaptation and disaster relief efforts. This fee, implemented in 2024, varies based on the type of accommodation and season, our rate is €2.00 per night and is charged at check-out.

    Sun Protection

Symi enjoys long, sunny days—especially during the peak summer months, when temperatures can rise significantly. While the sunshine is part of the island’s charm, it’s important to take care in the heat.

Here are a few tips to help you stay safe and comfortable:

    • Apply high-SPF sunscreen regularly, even on cloudy days or when swimming.

    • Wear a hat, sunglasses, and light, breathable clothing to protect your skin.

    • Stay hydrated – refill your reusable water bottle often at the water station.

    • Seek shade during the hottest part of the day, typically between 12:00 and 16:00.

    • Take breaks from direct sun, especially when exploring or hiking.

Your health and comfort are important to us—please take precautions and enjoy the sunshine responsibly!

  • A Note on Bathroom Doors (or the Lack Thereof!)

As part of the restoration of The Old Markets—our beautiful, national monument—strict heritage regulations meant we had to get creative. Because we weren’t allowed to add too many internal partitions or doors, the proprietor made a bold design choice: open-plan living.

That’s why you may notice something a little... unexpected during your stay: your bathroom might not have a traditional door but has been intentional designed to have privacy screening.

    Operating the shower

    • On the left, select either the overhead or handheld shower by turning the control up or down.

    • On the right, adjust the temperature by turning the control up or down.

    • In some rooms, to turn on the water, you’ll need to pull the handle outward at a 45-degree angle.

If you're unsure, please ask a member of staff for assistance.

    Toilet Use

    • Please do not flush toilet paper or any paper products.
Kindly place all paper items in the bin provided—this will be emptied daily by housekeeping.

The local sewage system in Greece is unable to handle flushed paper. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in helping us prevent plumbing issues.
